So you’ve written a fan fiction. You’ve become so wrapped up in a story that you just had to write one of your own using those characters. But now what do you do with it? You’d like to share it with others who love the characters as much as you do, but how? Look no further. The world’s largest fan fiction site is right at your fingertips.

With thousands of subjects to choose from, you are sure to find your subject in there somewhere. Whether you fell in love with a book, a movie, a TV show, a play, or even comics, thee is a spot for you. But first things first. In order to post a story so that others can read and review it, you must create a profile. That is easy to do on FanFiction.net.

On the top right of the home screen, there is a button called ‘sign up’. Click on it and fill out the information box. Make sure you choose a pen name you like and can remember, because it’s going to be your name forever.

Once you have an account set up, you can personalize it or get right to posting. Sometimes there is a few day waiting period to prevent spammers, but when your account is active you will get to a white screen with a column of options to your left. To begin posting, click on the ‘publish’ button. This will open another group of options. Before you can post anything new, you must read the rules and guidelines. Click on that button and scroll to the bottom to agree.

Now you are ready to post. Before you click on that tempting ‘New Story’ button, you must upload what you’ve written (at least the first chapter). Click on the button labeled ‘Doc Manager’. It will take you to a new window. In the section labeled ‘upload new document’ name your document and click the browse button to locate it on your computer. Once it is loaded, hit the ‘submit’ button. It will appear in blue at the top of the page. Click on it to edit it now if you would like.

If you are ready, now you can click on the ‘New Story’ button. First you must select a story type. Is your story a crossover (more than one TV show/movie, etc)? No? Than just click ‘Normal’. Then click ‘select a category’. This will take you to a pop-up window where you figure out what section your story belongs in. Let’s say you wrote a story about your favorite TV Show, Scrubs. You would choose the TV Shows category and scroll down to the name Scrubs. Once Scrubs is highlighted, click the button below to continue. Then click ‘okay’.

A new window will open with your story options. Give your story a title (not all caps, please), a summary (less than 255 characters and clear, please), and choose your language, the rating of what you wrote (M rated fics will not show up on the main page), the genres (romance, comedy, angst, etc), and the two main characters included in the story you wrote. Under status, please label either complete or in-progress if you are going to add additional chapters to your story. Then select your document from the pull-down list.

Last but not least, click ‘Publish Your Story’. You’ve done it! Yay! In about thirty minutes to an hour your story will appear on the main page of the section you posted it in. Hopefully, people will read it and review, letting you know that good (and bad) points in what you wrote. Whatever the case, you’ve added to the community that you love so much.
